Jessie Ferguson, born and raised in Houston, Texas, holds a BFA in Dance from the George Mason University School of Dance under the direction of Karen Reedy. She began her dance training at Move Dance and Fitness under the direction of Mallorie Marion. In 2020, Jessie graduated from Kinder High School for Performing and Visual Arts, with a concentration in dance, under the direction of Janie Carothers and Courtney D. Jones. Throughout her years, she has performed works by Martha Graham, Sidra Bell, Amy Miller, Janie Carothers, Gage Self, Courtney D. Jones, Anna Lopez, and Hadiya Matthews, among others.
Choreographically, Jessie has taken advantage of every possibility to create and has continued developing her choreographic voice. In 2022, Jessie was selected for the Aimed Dance Emerging Choreographer Fellowship during the Young Artists Program, where she created a work entitled “Telephone”. Jessie was also selected to present her work, “When the Owl Came to Me”, at the 2023 Barnstorm Dance Fest in Houston, TX. Most recently, she was commissioned by Rice Dance Theatre to create a new work for their Fall 2024 Performance.
Jessie is also the founder of BOOT Dance Project, a non-profit organization dedicated to creating opportunities for Texas-based dance artists and audiences. BOOT focuses on fostering growth, education, and community through performances, artist development initiatives, and audience engagement programs.
As an instructor, Jessie is passionate about nurturing and mentoring young artists to improve their technical and creative abilities. Since 2019, she has been a part-time faculty member and choreographer for Move Dance Family. She has also taught and choreographed at multiple competitive dance studios and dance programs across the Houston area, inspiring artistry in all dancers.
